Designed on paper to tackle the most technical terrain, these 361° disappointed us. The Yushan seemed promising. As always with 361°, the manufacturing quality is top notch, with meticulous assemblies.
Out testing, we found that they were inert without any spring that don’t make you want to lengthen your stride and accelerate. They are stable, which presents a real advantage on technical terrain, the sole’s ” energy”, “pep’s” is not very convincing. The cushioning is absent on the entire front part of the shoe, under the metatarsals. On hard terrain you have to run the 361° Yushan with precise foot placement: it is not easy to always be very precise to avoid suffering.
The heel is also rigid. The shoes maybe fluid enough, but they have no spring. Weighing in at 350 grams this sensation is maybe not surprising.
They are, on the other hand, great for fast hiking because the sole is in direct contact with the terrain. For this job cushioning is much less necessary.
The sole has an interesting grip, relatively powerful for vertical climbs or on slopes. The grip is reduced on wet ground, or to be more precise, on rocky slabs and pebbles. The flexible rubber shows its best on dry surfaces.
The 361 ° Yushan as an 8mm drop. The tongue is thick, comfortable and sits securely in place. The flat lacing distributes the pressure when tightened and slides very easily. The foot envelopment as a whole could be a little more accurate. The 361° favored comfort with squishy foam padding, which in turn lose foot precision. The forefoot is well protected by an effective stone guard.
We had contrasting results for these 361° Yushan, which lack dynamism to play with the front runners.
