You will want this MTB Bollé Trackdown for its superb design, classy shape and quality materials. The helmet is supremely finished and at reasonable price at 149euros.
It weighs 378g, so a lightweight MTB helmet.
We weren’t surprised by its comfort once in place, obviously due to its feather weight, after miles and miles on the tracks you don’t have any sensation of inertia or cervical fatigue, the balance is perfect.
The foam fits ergonomically with a firm fit and there is a button at the back to twist and tighten or loosen the fit as needed. The pressure is well spread out over the entire circumference of the head.
On bumpy terrain the helmet sits in place thanks to the good fit and the chin strap. There isn’t any inertia from the peak of the helmet either, with its slightly flexible material – maybe to help absorb shocks? You can also remove it if you prefer.
Good ventilation and the foam doesn’t soak up any sweat. The chin strap is easy to adjust, the straps slide easily and then once in place don’t move. A few of our testers would’ve liked a little bit of protective foam under the chin.
Nice detail: the visor can be lifted to put your goggles on the helmet. Sunglasses can also be placed on the helmet when you aren’t using them. You slide the arms into the ventilation holes on the side, you can also slide them in upside down and backwards, which clips them in nicely and they don’t fall.
The Bollé Trackdown uses double density EPS for the construction that absorbs high impact shocks, unlike low density EPS that can only deal with minor impacts. The Trackdown that we tested was kitted out with MIPS technology for multi-directional protection: a layer of material inside the helmet that reduces the brain’s rotational movement in the event of a direct impact. Some of the energy of the impact is dispersed instead of provoking damage. The performance of this technical part of the helmet are of course difficult to test and verify.
The Bollé Trackdown MIPS is a lightweight, safety conscious, comfortable, and beautifully designed helmet. The price fits the product. We have given it the Hot Deal Award for its value for money.
