The Siesta 45 is designed for climbing a one rope route or for carrying equipment to the base of a climb. It is not designed for climbing with it on your back, too big and heavy.
The shoulder straps and the half-flexible foamed back provide excellent comfort. Strap adjustment is easy, a simple waist belt and another at chest level are sufficient for this type of pack.
The ergonomics in general have been well-designed, it is compact with removable lateral compression straps allowing volume adjustment as close to the carrying axis as possible. Once loaded to the brim it remains perfectly balanced without wobbling around.
Designed from a block made from one compartment with a two-way zip, so you can access all your equipment from the top or bottom. Very practical and the system works well with care and attention.
A small ground mat is integrated inside, perfect for sitting down on for a picnic or a “siesta”! It is also useful for making the back of the pack slightly more rigid. Only glitch, you have to empty the pack to remove it and put it back. The central compartment closes with a metal hook on a strap. You must remember to clip it on each time otherwise it moves around and when you bend down the metal hook comes and caresses your head. Likewise for the adjustment straps.
There are large mesh pockets on the sides where you could store water bottles, gloves, hat, etc. They are solidly sewn in. After six months of use we didn’t notice any wear and tear. Only the interior zip which seemed a little fragile broke. There is a larger inner pocket on the flap.
On the front there are two proper handles for carrying it like a bag. Over all this is a great climbing bag. The design is simple, tough with a great look. Its 45L volume is practical and accessible, and it is comfortable to carry fully loaded. A practical pack at a reasonable price, which could also be used elsewhere than just for climbing trips.
