The VANOISE socks from “La Chaussette de France” are essential for skiers looking for warmth, softness and comfort. With 38% merino wool at a very affordable price, they help keep your feet warm while having socks of medium thickness that maintain precise contact while skiing.
We tested these socks downhill skiing, ski touring and cross-country skiing. In these three disciplines, they have fulfilled their contract of comfort and warmth without being too hot, in part due to the merino wool which allows very good thermoregulation. The VANOISE material allows you to put on your alpine ski boots easily. Also, no heating or friction zones were noted during use, which is often the case with some socks.
There are reinforcements with tiny flat loops (therefore not too thick) positioned at the tibia, ankles, heels and the internal and external sides of the feet that give added comfort. Also, a colored band (blue here) that is reinforced with small elastic threads, located at the ankle articulation and midfoot, making it possible to hold the sock in place during action. The wide ribbing holds the sock in place under the knee without compressing the leg. Finally, the flat seam at the toes avoids discomfort in tight ski boots.
Even after several washes, the VANOISE don’t change shape. However, do be careful tumble drying isn’t recommended with merino wool. Although, the mixture of wool and acrylic-polyamide gives it high-speed drying anyway and moisture evacuation during use.
To conclude, these socks are suitable for skiers who love both accuracy and warmth, as usually it is very difficult to have both benefits together at an affordable price.
