COLUMBIA Montrail Caldorado III

Caldorado III is a cosmetic evolution of the Caldorado II that we tested last year (http://www.test4outside.com/produit/columbia-montrail-caldorado-ii/).

Ultra-comfortable shoes with plenty of comfy foam, a 3D heel/ankle envelopment: just like wearing slippers.

The whole part of the heel up to the toes provides a precise fit. The toe-box is wide. The stone guard is very effective against big shocks. There aren’t any pressure points and integrates well into the overall design of the Caldorado III.

Lacing up isfast and performant. The wide flat laces spread the pressure all over the instep. You do have to make a double knot to avoid having to tighten them again.

The foot strike reveals two obvious points.

The first is well-balanced cushioning on both the forefoot and the heel. These Columbia Montrail Caldorado III make it possible to filter stony ground without losing the feelof the ground so you keep your foot positioning precision.

The second point deals with the flexibility of the sole at the forefoot it hinges under the metatarsals. On very technical profiles, we lose a little bit confidence in relation to having a more rigid sole. We didn’t notice this with the Caldorado II.

On long outings, you soon forget the Columbia Montrail Caldorado III. They have good grip over the entire surface of the sole. They make a funny noise when running over hard rocky slabs as if the rubber was hard, but it isn’t.

On very aggressive parts of the path, you do feel stones at the front of the shoe. Lateral stabilization in the ankle is good.

The 8mm drop is the same as on the old version, nothing has changed. A standard rating for long distance running shoes.

The front of the Columbia Montrail is breathable and no grit can get in via the tongue.

We liked this third version of the Columbia Montrail Caldorado, comfortable and efficient.
