The idea of wearing ultra-lightweight mittens on their own or over warm gloves is nothing new. Alpine skiers have used this solution for a long time.

It goes without saying that having these with you on any chilly or wet outing is a no-brainer.
Let’s see later what their real advantages are, but we can say immediately that this Compressport product is used a lot for trail running but also biking, trekking and some types of mountaineering.
Like the Compressport ultra-light jackets these mittens will never leave your pack for several reasons: their weight is of course an obvious reason, their ease of use is the second reason: they slip onto your hands very easily, even if you’re cold. The opening is wide and the fabric is stretchy. The waterproofness is one of the major points of this product and their facility of repelling the wind, which helps to delay the moment that humidity passes through the material. When the product is brand new the waterproofness is unquestionable (you would need to check after many hours of use if the fabric gets baggy). Do be careful around the cuffs, we advise wearing them under the jacket sleeves.
The cuff is elastic and keeps the mittens in place at the wrist. They are comfortable overall and have the standard precision of mittens. At the end of the thumb you can feel the over-layering of the glued materials.
We liked the anti-slip palms, very useful for adjusting and using poles. This is useful, although not miraculous. If you use them for prolonged periods in the rain with poles you can see wear and tear in the area between the thumb and the other fingers.
Breathability is standard for this type of waterproof product, if you don’t sweat too much all is fine..
Our only worry is losing them! Because they are so light and soft. We found that putting one inside the other and stuffing them in your trail running pack they take up about as much room as a cigarette lighter.
