Dynafit Hoji Pro Tour Limited Edition

Winter 2018-19 product tested as a première!

With this new model, Dynafit wanted to produce a lightweight touring model. The aim being to enrich performance in the downhill to be closer to a freerando or even a freeride boot model.

This model is manufactured in Grilamid, it is not the definitive model and some minor improvements should be carried out over the next few months.

They aren’t the fastest boots to get on, but after a bit of practice it becomes easier.

The lever at the rear of the boot for opening/closing the collar is a bit stiff. This also loosens up after some use.

The result is rather compelling: lowering the rear lever the collar connects to the upper and the feeling of cohesion gives the impression of having a boot without a mechanism, freeing up the collar for going uphill.

Foot pressure is firm front and rear and enables the skier to go fast and have good grip in the turns.

There is enough space at the front of the boot for even the widest of feet. 103.5mm wide.

The heel is held neatly in place with an oblique buckle on the top of the foot that tightens towards the rear, the heel doesn’t move.

You need to lift the lever to unlock it. The articulation is excellent and does not have any pressure points.

We were impressed by the firmness of its pressure but it lacked forward inclination: Dynafit quite rightly informed us that you can modify this angle by adjusting a screw on the uphill/downhill lever.

Lateral rigidity for gripping the edges enables very good control and stabilizes the carving with wide skis on hard snow.

In the uphill a reduced front volume and a slight recoil of the rotation point, ensure comfort and efficiency.

To complete the set-up, a fastening system allows you to fix crampons onto the front. It’s very light and is under the front section of the sole. The boot is compatible with semi-automatic crampons. But the Hoji is especially developed to fit ultra-lightweight crampons like Cramp-In crampons developed by Salewa (who belong to the same group). At 260g, they are currently the lightest on the market. The hook mechanism and the inserts in the sole allow you to fix them directly, without the use of straps and other stirrups.

All that seems simple and light but we haven’t been able to test them yet.

Our tests so far though have been able to confirm the good foothold in downhill for usage that goes further than just pure ski touring.

Because of their ease of use and performance they will be appreciated by a wide audience. The noble name and new look for an expert skier looking for performance in the downhill with a boot with a touring aspect.

We need to test the definitive model in all its uses.

Eric Hjorleifsen (Hoji) is a canadian skier. Since 2013 he has been working on the design of this boot with Fritz Barthel, inventor of the Lowe Tech bindings.

“This first test does confirm the brilliant foothold of these boots in the downhill, and proves that they easily exceed the uses of just pure ski touring.”
