This Dynafit jacket is designed for demanding activities in alpine terrain or other, very light, technical and enticing at first glance.
It combines cleverly thought out and sophisticated fabrics that vary depending on the composition, thickness, and positioning. The aim is to obtain the most relevant compromise between body temperature control (protection / breathing) and freedom of movement for comfort and lightness. Three quarters of the back, forearms, elbow and the hood and lower section at the front are made from stretch fabric that does a brilliant job: to ensure flexibility and comfort during movement and a great ventilation.
Breathability is completed in the upper back using small perforations along the spine. If you carry a small backpack or a hydration system the evacuation of moisture still remains effective. All the fabric around the wrist, the bottom of the jacket and the hood has elasticated lining.
There are thumb holes. It isn’t waterproof fabric, but its clearly water repellent character does delay its impregnation and moisture getting in.
We found that it dries quickly. On the front, around the arms, neck and shoulders, is a different coloured membrane and composition. It ensures the impermeability of these areas. It protects another interior lining that acts as insulation (Polartec®Alpha). They provide more warmth and protection in these areas which are exposed the most to wind and weather. The internal seams of these panels are also have better seals with an additional bias.
This part is finished on the inside with a protective mesh fabric with a pocket. The opening zip(a YKK®), is lined with an inner flap at chin level, for comfort, protection and to avoid any irritation, especially when the hood is up. This flap does not cover the entire zip, but the careful design cleverly doesn’t allow any wind to get through. Figure hugging, as a second layer, this jacket is not designed to keep you warm, so not for sports such as mountaineering and extreme cold high altitude. It is however perfect for adapting to and regulating body temperature depending on climatic conditions (and level of effort required).
The materials seem tough, durable, but we did not use it in very rough abrasive conditions. The combination combo of breathable stretchy part and more protective insulating area is well-judged and works well. It was appreciated in the outdoor activities (trail running, cross-country skiing, mountain biking …) that we did, associating intensive movement of the arms, displacement and sometimes speed. In this context, its design is well-adapted. The aims of creating well-targeted insulation, protection, lightness and comfort are superbly studied and successful. With high-quality manufacturing, technicality and finish, the materials used are adequate for this Dynafit Transalper Hybrid Polartec®Alpha technical jacket, the Test4outside.com team awarded it a FIRST award.
