The new Effinov Sport gel was used by the Test4outside team throughout the summer during trail running, long bike rides and swimming. The packaging is like a mini compote. So it’s not a reduced form gel like most products on the market that weigh around 30g. The Effinov Sport Hydraminov Gel + weighs 80g. Due to its shape and weight, it corresponds to specific expectations and uses. A big advantage it has is the screw cap so you can close the container. Obviously you aren’t going to swallow the 80g gel all at once: you need to take one or two sips every ten minutes, with a sip of water. So you close the mini bottle and put it back into your cycling jersey or trail pack: the square format and its weight are not the most practical but you do have the equivalent of almost three gels in one. It goes without saying that the packet, once finished, must be put into a recycling bin.

What does this gel provide you during physical effort? The mini-compote is very easy to handle, even when going downhill, or on a bike. The gel is runny but not too runny and you immediately notice its tangy apricot, guava flavor. It is definitely miles away from the usual sickly chemical tastes of standard gels. We won’t go so far as to qualify this gel as “gourmand” but we’re not far off! So you have the impression of swallowing a (good) compote. There has been some debate within the Test4outside team about the tangy side of the product. Some testers found it a little too strong while others really liked it because you don’t get that dry feeling (thirst) in your mouth. There is also no sickening sweet taste.
Digestibility. In our view this is one of the biggest problems with gels. The presence of magnesium, very “chemical” ingredients, cocktails more or less well inspired by vitamins, sodium, and the association with a badly dosed iso drink, etc. can cause famous digestive disorders. With Effinov Sport Hydraminov Gel +, as long as you follow the dosage, we didn’t notice any stomach problems at all. In terms of efficiency during physical effort, the gel helps to maintain energy intake on a constant basis and limits upsets. Note, this gel does not give a boost like some caffeine or guarana products. No, Effinov offers a consistently dosed product that helps maintain physiological capacities by providing energy.
