The ÉLAN Amphibio 18 Ti ² are attractive skis with a flashy design. Asymmetric skis with attention to detail that correspond to top-of-the-range Alpine downhill skis.
Skiing we found that they were actually quite inert, in the sense that the ÉLAN Amphibio 18 Ti2 don’t give much pizzazz. Their absence of peps is surprising. But they quickly engage the turns thanks to their ultra-performant tips.
They ride well carving and skidding turns. They bring you instinctively onto the edges and carry you off on a mono-radius turn (16 meters). It’s not easy to vary the radius and hold their performance. They are rather peaceful skis and don’t like being shoved around or dominated.
Carving on soft snow with a slight slope all is hunky dory, as soon as the slope sharpens and the snow is more compact, even hard, they lose control as the bite disperses. If you give more pressure to encourage a bite the skis torsionally deform a lot and you lose contact with the snow.
The ÉLAN Amphibio 18 Ti ² are really nice and efficient skis for someone who doesn’t like skiing fast. As soon as you accelerate they chatter a lot and the tips lose the action and contact. For any classic moves on plain terrain they work well. Their main downside is their lack of grip on hard compact snow; you lose confidence and so you slow down. Heavier built skiers need to leave these to one side as they deform too much, particularly in the tail. They come out with mixed reviews for skis that are aesthetically stunning, yet not very performant. For skilled skiers.
