GrivelStealth

HOT DEAL

The Stealth from Grivel has a real futuristic look, yellow and black, geometric design, you won’t be going anywhere incognito!

First impressions: lightweight 200g, perfect for mountain racing and long climbing routes where the weight of your helmet is hyper-important. It is also immensely comfortable, even after several hours of wearing it.

It sits snugly on your head, doesn’t move around, if you adjust carefully to your head size before you set off. The adjustment system isn’t particularly fluid, marginally complicated to adjust when you are wearing it whilst climbing. But the bonus of it being difficult to adjust the straps means that once done they do not move again, no slipping slightly after several hours of use for example.

The chin strap adjustment is a classic clip system, simple and reliable but not very comfortable if adjusted too tightly. We tested this helmet in Corsica and in Cassis, South of France, in very hot weather: the ventilation system on the sides guarantees great air circulation. Very efficient in keeping your head cool and along with the lightness of the helmet you can quickly forget you are wearing it.

Is it strong enough? It’s stated as being a hybrid helmet, a rigid shell and polycarbonate to resist shocks, and EPS foam that deforms to absorb impacts. So both together it spreads the force of an impact over the entire helmet, and therefore gives maximum safety.

It easily respects the standard norm. We obviously did not test its statement “live” we didn’t want to be hit by falling rocks, whether wearing a helmet or not – it’s best avoided! We trust Grivel.

Other than that we mistreated it willingly by banging it, trailing it around, and it only had a few scratches and tiny dents. It is compact and doesn’t intrude in your field of vision. It also stores easily in your pack.

There are 4 headlamp clips, and the head size is adjustable from 55cm to 61cm. It is just under 100€ and is good value for money. It is the same level of standard as helmets in the 140€ range.

We didn’t find any faults, only a slight lack of fluidity in adjusting the straps, and the shape at the rear of the helmet that could be a little more enveloping to protect the neck better.

An excellent helmet of very high quality, very lightweight, comfortable and versatile whatever your activity: rocks, ice climbing, mountaineering, etc. The price may seem a little expensive but it is worth it, a good long term investment. We really liked the design, it’s different, adding a bit of fantasy in the vertical world!
