HELLY HANSEN Alpha Warm HT

The Helly Hansen Alpha Warm HT gloves are neat and comfortable to wear. Skiers (more alpine and freeride) will find very effective insulation is perfect for the medium-low temperatures! They are versatile gloves, not too hot at the end of the season, or too thin for the month of February. They seem thick when they come out of their packaging, their insulation (140g 3M Thinsulate) is flattens down rapidly. But don’t not rely on first impressions. The Helly Hansen Alpha Warm HT seem to be cut small, however, after a few hours of use, the insulation takes up less space and the leather stretches. So do buy your size and allow for them to ease in to the shape of your hands.

They are nice to wear because you can handle what you want without having to always take them off. The fingertips remain dexterous. The fingers are preformed, flexible, ditto for the thumb. The palm of the hand is also precise for all grasping actions. The wrist area is also soft thanks to the fabric.

The wrist Velcro® is effective, powerful, even if we would’ve preferred the end bit to have no Velcro® so you could grab it easier.

Soft, comfortable, and warm, these Helly Hansen Alpha Warm HT are well reinforced in the palm of the hand and on a part of the thumb. It’s a shame they didn’t reinforce over the entire thumb because it is exposed to friction. The thin leather deteriorates quickly due to the skis’ edges when carrying them.

To quibble: anti-slip material on the palm of the hand would’ve been useful when carrying wider skis (which often have a smooth coating).

They go on without forcing. Each glove has a small cord to avoid losing them. We don’t usually like this solution but this time we used it. This is actually useful on a chairlift. That said, if you don’t use around your wrist, this cord can get in the way (get caught up in the ski poles for example). Fortunately, Helly Hansen made it removable.

You can fit a ticket or hand heater pad in the zip pocket on the palm of the hand: in the latter case, it is quite uncomfortable and not very effective because you usually have cold fingers and not on the top from the hand.

We tested these gloves over several weeks in the snow and rain and found them to be very waterproof.

These Helly Hansen Alpha Warm HT gloves are a great product, appreciated for their comfort, precision and thermal insulation.
