The Test4outside team were ready to give the FIRST Award to the Odin Mountain 3L shell bib pant. It was without counting a last session in the rain… Why did the designers of this superbly thought out product not put a waterproof zipped fly? Water gets in here, particularly on chairlifts. The designers didn’t want to stiffen the area with a waterproof zip maybe? It’s a real shame, because the rest is faultless.
If you ignore this detail everything else is perfect and very well-conceived. They are loose fitting to allow easy body movement. Very comfortable due to the cleverly designed panels and stretchy fabric. The area we particularly liked was the lumbar region and the suspenders. Bib pants can often be uncomfortable in this region. With the Odin Mountain 3L shell bib pant this is not the case at all. Everything is soft, with great volumes (neither too wide nor too tight). The thin straps cause no friction, and they adjust precisely.
On the piste or freeriding, we appreciated their waterproofness (except, well, you know…), their breathability and great comfort.
The huge side openings have a waterproof two-way zip that is positioned above the hips (under the jacket) for total waterproofness. All sliders are fitted with a cord and a tip that’s big enough for using with gloves. The zips slide easily. There is a double pocket on the left thigh and a single pocket on the right. Their contents do not interfere with leg flexion.
Note the integration of the Recco at the base of the pants, the traditional protection against ski edge bangs. The fabric is very thin at the level of the ski boots. This is the same for the rest of the pants, you would need to check the longevity of this product, which doesn’t look as robust as the jacket of the same name: Helly Hansen Odin Mountain 3L Shell jkt.
