It is very important to have a backpack that is adapted to your chosen activity. So we often have several backpacks depending on whether we go day hiking, mountaineering or trekking, not forgetting climbing.
The Sloper 45L from Husky nestles itself in the lightweight pack category for daylong activities, mountain racing, ski mountaineering, hiking or snowshoeing. It’s lightweight but not ultra-lightweight, an average weight/volume ratio. Overall this pack does its job well in its category by fulfilling many criteria.
It is comfortable, easy to adjust and the back ventilation system with mesh performs superbly. The straps are well-padded and average width for the maximum comfort weight that this type of pack volume can tolerate, maximum 10kg. The waistband is quite narrow but comfortable and suitable for the size of the pack. There are several zipped pockets on the top flap inside and out, a large one in front and small one on the waistband. The zip on the waistband pocket is difficult to use, all the pocket-closing systems are badly dimensioned in relation to the size of pocket.
It could do with a small inside pocket for papers, telephone and key attachment. The closing systems are all waterproof but don’t slide easily, this could provide toughness or weakness over time – needs testing! The lateral opening enables immediate access to the whole pack and especially to the bottom, which is where we always need to access to find what we’re looking for….! so very, very useful.
The fabric is thick and tough, even if sometimes the stitching finishing isn’t perfect. It is doted with accessories, a protective cover under the pack, two gear loops for ice axes or poles, compression strap for adjusting the volume, weight adjustable straps, elastic on top of the pack, and two mesh side pockets. The volume is stated at 45L, but it’s more like 40 + 5L thanks to its little skirt, but not so useful because once it’s well packed it’s difficult to close: More suited to the category 40L than 45L.
Overall the pack has a stylish look, it’s comfortable with a simple and efficient design. It has a rustic feel and the lateral opening is really a masterful point. It could be even lighter for the volume size but it nevertheless offers good value for money.
