The new RX range by Lange is inspired by racing products to such a degree that the difference between the World Cup RS 130 Wide, (tested by test4outside), and the RX 130 is barely noticeable. In both cases we have superb boots undeniably designed for performance.
What is noticeable straight away with the new RX 130 is the quality of its fit. As soon as you slide it on you can feel its refined precision. Your foot is snuggled up against the shell but without any pressure points due to its high quality design. The thin inner sock does its job superbly providing comfort and necessary precision.
The boot slides on surprisingly easily for such a rigid racing style boot (130 flex) and the shell opens wide without hurting your foot. The inside of the inner sock is lined with a warm fabric and slides easily similar to the World Cup model. The RX 130 has white fabric at the top of the inner sock and after one month of skiing the white becomes grey, especially on the sides.
The buckles are top-class, simple, efficient and a pure delight to use. You don’t need to force them at any time. The front two are multiple buckles. The tightening strap at the top has been brilliantly designed, it is ultra-fast to use and ensures good hold thanks to its Velcro and the width of the strap. The tongue has a strap to make putting on the boot easier, yes it’s a classic accessory but this one is just the right length.
On snow they are powerful and don’t lose energy. You really feel the skis and the control, nothing is left to chance, you direct the skis to the millimeter. The 130 flex is progressive. It is stiff without being excessive. The tibia isn’t reduced to pulp, the ankle and heel are held firmly with the comfort of the firm foam and the toes have enough space to be comfortable yet directive. We tested the 97mm width that is available for all the RX models, called Low Volume, and we had enough space.
You do need to be a bit careful walking on icy ground even if the outer sole is injected with dual—injected polyurethane, they have a good grip but it’s limited. The shell is made from Dual Core, two different types of injected plastic spread out to specific zones that require more stiffness or more flex. The inner sock is customizable. Humidity does have a tendency to sneak in so dry them out correctly in the evening. Resistance against the cold is not the major high point of this particular boot.
This is really an excellent boot for skiing on and off piste, when you are searching high precision, rigidity and performance. A truly excellent model.
