NEMO Dagger 2

We tested this tent on a road trip in Iceland for a week. On black sand on the beach, in damp fields, in a windy camp site and on gravelly mountainside, we put this tent through its paces.

Like all tents in this category there is a permanent fight in relation to weight; lightweight vs durability, lightweight vs strength, lightweight vs protection.

During our adventure what surprised us the most was this tent’s resistance against the wind. Perfect for Iceland, where we encountered very, very strong winds.

This tent in the high winds that we experienced moved in every which way like a blade of grass, knocked in all directions, flattened and beaten by the gusts, and nothing broke – back to its upright position.

The four connections from the groundsheet connected to the four connections of the double roof are enough.

The weight of this tent is also a big bonus point at 1.7kg : the tent, mosquito net, pegs, a few tubes and plenty of stitching.

The interior space is slightly more voluminous than the direct competitor Hubba Hubba by MSR, despite the same weight (but extra airspace isn’t heavy…).

Like all Nemo products, the attention to detail is unrivalled.

Storage space is multiple and well-designed, stitching and junctions are spot on (even the end stitching carries the brand’s logo), and the assembly system and structure and roof adjustment are intelligent, intuitive and efficiently thought out.

The space is equivalent to the weight and the apses are well designed. They have two anchor points for optimal tension and a relatively comfortable space. This volume is enough for cooking sheltered from the rain, but not the wind, to store and protect bags and shoes.

The geometry of the ground sheet is also well designed. The waterproof material rises about 15cm above the ground. Which is perfect in case it rains hard and if the wind is cold.

The only thing we didn’t really like was the colour: bright green. When you are hoping to be discreet camping wild, or in areas where camping is prohibited, we would’ve liked to have been less visible…
