The Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 80 RB are in the 80mm underfoot family. At first we would’ve put these skis in the all mountain category but the lack of rise in the tips and their flex designed for groomed slopes, even racing (they come from the Dobermann family roots) really placed them in the groomed slopes category.
The flex is consistent with a well-designed structure and the 80mm allows you to especially enjoy the end of season spring snow.
What is the most surprising with these Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 80 RB is the ease in which they pivot, almost as if they didn’t have a tail. You don’t need to force them, the skis follow the movement in a super relaxed way. All movements whether carving or skidding turns are easily done, even short skidding turns. For ski instructors these would be an excellent tool.
As soon as you accelerate on long sweeping turns you quickly and instinctively find the edges. They are fluid and regular and you immediately see the exceptional value of these skis. But, … as soon as you try to vary the turns, reduce them, balance becomes complicated. If you lean forwards looking for the tips it works but leaning back on the tail works better and you can reach a 17 meter radius. We would’ve liked a tighter radius on the slopes to ride between other skiers. They are pleasant skis but a bit too exclusive.
They have standard grip, even travelling across ice sheets you remain serene. The grip is definitely good.
The tips filter really well when riding through mounds of snow and they don’t shake too much on small bumps.
These skis are heavy to carry but once on your feet you don’t feel their weight. We really appreciated the way they stayed planted to the snow, like Giant skis.
The Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 80 RB are fluid and technical skis but very mono-radius. Heavy-built skiers who have a tendency to bend a ski’s flex will without doubt be able to exploit these ones better. Beautiful finishing with inserts and a touch of fluorescent on the black: aggressive but a good look. Stunning metallic tips a shame that the small screws are a bit too visible (Kastle and Head integrate the screws much better).
