Osprey has a hydration pack specifically designed for girls. At 2.5L it makes it a serious ally for long trips out mountain biking, hiking and outdoor activities requiring regular hydration. For running, you will see at the end of this test that it is not really recommended (it isn’t designed for this).
It is carefully made, with quality materials and a good fit. The main criticism regarding this Osprey Kitsuma 3 bag is related to its lack of belt or chest strap to ensure that it sits still on your back. For walking, and any activities that don’t need good hold, the Kitsuma 3 does the job.
We appreciated the side pockets where you can tuck in a protective jacket or a spare layer. At the top of the pack you can slip small items into another pocket: keys, phone, cereal bars. Osprey describes this pocket as “anti-scratch”, for glasses and electronics: it’s good and very practical.
The other great point is the chest strap which closes with a magnetic clip. It opens and closes with one hand. The other function of the magnetized part is to keep the hydration tube attached along the shoulder strap, very accessible. The system is effective, except when you move too much, like when running for example: the magnet is not strong enough to hold the tube in place …
The back of the pack is well-designed with ventilation gaps. The bladder is well held in its compartment with two clips. We liked the system for closing it as it’s very convenient for refilling, but also for cleaning. The transparent tube (you can see straight away if it is dirty, if it has any mold) easily separates from the pocket.
The mouthpiece is well-designed because the water doesn’t come out on its own, you have to have the mouthpiece inside your mouth.
Overall, the Osprey Kitsuma 3 is a good versatile hydration pack, particularly for hiking, fast hiking and mountain biking. It is just missing a ventral belt for the functions to be complete.
