When climbing long routes most of the time you need to carry a backpack, which can sometimes be a handicap! We just try and find one that is the most comfortable to avoid hindering movement. Well the Linked Pack is The one !
16L, which you would think is too small, actually provides adequate volume for a long all day route. You can easily put a pair of climbing shoes, windbreaker, a dozen carabiners, IL water bottle, snacks and squeeze in the harness and attach the helmet on the outside.
There’s a great outside pocket with a flap protected zip and an inside safety pocket for keys, papers etc. The main compartment is closed using a cord with two self-blockers, very practical to close and simple and fast to open thanks to its opposing buckles. This closing system does not have a protective flap so the opening is not waterproof. If the cord is well tightened it resists some water but heavy rain will end up seeping in.
In case you need to hoist the pack there are two strong handles on top (front and back) so you can easily lift the pack straight up. On the front and the sides there are loops to pass a cord or elastic (not included) and therefore have an exterior mesh to carry your helmet or jacket etc. It’s a great idea, but make sure you undo it when climbing because it could cause a problem if you need to hoist the pack otherwise it could catch on a rock, tree etc. Thanks to its supple back, compactness, lightweight and ergonomics this pack gives fabulous freedom of movement.
The shoulder straps are comfortable even though they are narrow and easily adjustable. The waistband is ultra-simple and doesn’t get in the way. This pack is carried high up on your back and therefore doesn’t interfere with your climbing harness or other gear. The fabric is tough, thick and seems to resist hoisting. A nice looking product that is well finished and well designed. The price is a little high in relation to its volume but it is still a good investment due to its quality.
