The 2015 version of the Hirundos keeps this range going with combining lightness and comfort. The new opus is more comfortable than the previous version, the thermo-formed breathable foam (Fuse Frame system) padding provides good comfort and support to the belt and leg loops without rubbing. The leg loops are not adjustable, but with the elasticated system they adjust without compressing even if you’re wearing mountaineering trousers. There are 4 gear loops, 2 rigid ones at the front and 2 soft ones at the back – very clever idea as they don’t interfere with carrying a backpack. There are 2 loops for Caritools for ice climbers. The belay loops are made with high resistant polyurethane to protect against the rope rubbing.
The belt closes with a forged aluminium double-buckle, that is quick and smooth, maybe a bit too smooth because you must take care to thread the strap back through the buckle. With heavy tension the strap slides a bit in the harness (though impossible to open). It is without doubt a harness that is superbly finished, elegant, succeeds in combining lightness with comfort. Best use is on single pitch routes or ski mountaineering races where you don’t need to stay sitting a long time in the harness like you do on long routes, because despite its comfort, after several hours the lightness of the belt will start to dig into your back. A very stylish and high quality product, it exists in 5 sizes from XS to XL.
