PetzlSirocco 2

FIRST

What do you look for in a helmet besides wanting it to save your life in a bad fall or protect you from falling rocks? Well, to forget that you’re wearing one! With Sirocco from Petzl paradoxically you forget it when you’re wearing it yourself, but it’s difficult to forget it when your climbing partner is because of its bright orange colour! This helmet is designed for climbing and mountaineering, the ultra-light generation with its one-piece polypropylene construction and no outer hard-shell giving you the lightest possible helmet you can imagine: 165g! Unthinkable several years ago! But lightness does not necessarily mean safety and comfort too – but the Sirocco guarantees all the safety norms, registered CE EN 12492 norm, even if I didn’t personally test it by deliberately causing an avalanche of rocks to fall on my head !

Ergonomically it fits snugly to your head, we would’ve liked it to descend a bit lower at the back for more protection. The comfort is in line with the necessity to reduce weight and therefore choices have to be made, it is a successful compromise. It’s fully adjustable with two basic sizes. There are no hard plastic adjusting systems with knobs to twist, just small plastic rings with stops on the straps, precise, fast and don’t move. The chinstrap closes with a magnetic system, which is practical and efficient once you have got to grips with how it works. The lateral ventilation gaps are all over the helmet and create good air circulation.

Inside the helmet are removable washable foam pieces, which are interchangeable so you can give your helmet a new lease of life at the end of a season. If you need to attach a headlamp there is an elastic attached at the back and two plastic clips at the front, which are very practical and precise for holding the lamp. Once again Petzl have shown their ingenuity, just lacking in colourful inspiration … It is a helmet that perfectly combines lightness, comfort and durabilty. It’s a Must and good value for money.
