This zip up cardigan from Quechua NH500 Hybrid is designed for hiking. Designed to protect you from the cold, worn either with or without a jacket, depending on the exterior temperature.
Our testers immediately appreciated the feel of the soft material that gave an instant feeling of warmth when you put it on. The interior of the fabric is brushed and very soft. The combination of materials used is well thought out, the arms, back and hood are in a soft woven knit, and the front has a block of quilted windproof protection. The hood is large and envelops the head easily, the pull straps are nice and wide made from woven cotton and are pleasant to hold and use easily. The zips are also quite chunky so easy to handle and slide well.
The design is feminine and flattering, not too body hugging to allow freedom of movement for walking briskly and moving your arms around to take photos or scramble. Ventilation is easy to accommodate by simply unzipping the garment, you do get warm quite quickly under effort. Breathability of the fabrics seems limited. The zip goes right up to the neck, nice and high so stops any cold air currents coming in, there’s a protective tab at the top of the zip to avoid any rubbing. The rear curves downwards slightly keeping out any drafts.
There are two zip pockets that are ample for getting your hands fully inside out of the cold.
The only problematic we found was after wearing, if getting too hot and sweating, the fabric quickly starts to smell under the arms – could this be due to its 100% polyester? After some use we have started to see some pilling on the elbows, and at the rear near the bottom.
Otherwise for an unbeatable price of 24,99 for a zipped cardigan/jacket for Autumn, as well as winter (under a coat) and hiking in the spring, or even just wearing it in the evening, it is a very useful item to have. There is also a choice of 6 colors to answer to the whims of each person.
A notable positive remark to point out : Quechua try to use more and more fabrics with an eco-conception, in other words fabrics made from recycled polyester fibers – here the quilting for the torso has used this material; good job Quechua! Machine washable and dries quickly.
