These are beautifully designed goggles that come with two different sets of lenses: one for the sun and one for bad weather. Both sets of lenses are signed by the famous German opticien Carl Zeiss, the master of camera lenses. Now let’s see their efficiency on the terrain.
Great field of vision. You capture the details of the terrain really well with either of the lenses. The sun protection is extremely good. The double screen type lenses prevent fogging up. Some testers would have preferred a little more ventilation but the majority of the testers were happy with the goggles as they are.
The goggles are slightly rigid on the face and quite large but you quickly get used to it. The double-density foam is tough and very comfortable.
Actually it’s one of the qualities of these goggles: a certain “rusticity” which doesn’t make it a throw-away object. For example the lens is protected by plastic clips on the sides, that may not seem as aesthetic as goggles like Oakley Prizme where the lens is unprotected on the edges, but at least if you bang against something (like being in a ski lift) it’s the plastic that will touch and not the lens.
The lens assembly is a bit annoying at first but it quickly becomes a child’s game. The instruction booklet that comes with it is nonetheless utterly useless – impossible to understand. Depending on the exterior temperature sometimes you can hear a noise, check that the lens is correctly fitted.
When wearing a helmet the headband is the correct length and Rossignol have remembered to put an anti-slip section at the rear. The adjustment is done with two buckles: the strap slides but you need to use of a bit of elbow grease!
The goggles come with a storage bag and lightweight adjustment cord that could be a bit fragile if tugged on too hard. These goggles are well-designed, well-finished and seem to be long lasting with two lenses that suit the changing weather conditions.
