Salomon Sense Ride 2

FIRST

After many weeks of testing the Salomon Sense Ride 2, we can confirm its published placement in the range: a versatile shoe for training and competition. We add: “with finely dosed and very pleasant cushioning “.

We really liked these shoes, so much that they received the Test4outside.com FIRST Award. It is a well-balanced product, consistent and without any faults.

The sole works in harmony with the upper resulting in superb precision overall. You feel like you are closer to the ground despite its 8mm drop. The foot envelopment is (very) precise to the tip of the foot, you could almost say it’s designed for narrow feet. This precision enables careful foot placement and exploits the entire sole, which is a superb combination of cushioning and performance.

On long outings or on days where you are tired or the terrain is particularly tasking, the sole filters superbly well: you don’t lose stability, you keep contact with the ground and you can rebound without losing (too much) energy. The stride is fluid and torsional stability very satisfactory on most terrain. When it becomes really technical or you are traversing slopes they lose some of their perfection. Shocks with pointed stones have no effect on ¾ rear end of the shoe, but it’s a little more sensitive under the metatarsals.

The grip is good, that grips on the uphill and downhill (inverted crampons: classic). The lugs don’t get clogged with mud or small pebbles either. They reduced the height of the lugs, so do not expect a big bite when wading through deep mud. They are versatile shoes, for going fast on tracks, mountain paths that aren’t too technical.

The Salomon Sense Ride 2 has an interesting fit that doesn’t lose energy in the foot strike. The ankle and instep are significantly more comfortable than the rest of the shoe, elsewhere the contact is more direct with the shoe’s structure. Just above the toes on the sides you can feel the mesh but it’s not annoying. The heel is firmly held and the ankles are always comfortable even on steep traverses.

There is the usual Salomon Quicklace system, which is very powerful and precise. Handle with care, as usual, tighten in two steps, pull-tighten once and then adjust the front of the lacing with your fingers. This enables you to release a little pressure at the top of the instep because even despite the well-designed tongue after tightening, you can feel a pressure point appear.

They aren’t that easy to put on, but if you open them up wide and use the small loop to help you put them on they’re fine. The excess lace is stored in an easy access wide pocket, even with cold fingers. The lace stays in place in the action. The lace seemed a bit too long for us, it would have been better a bit shorter.

The Salomon Sense Ride 2 weighs as the brand advertises: 270g in 42 2/3.

The quality cannot be criticized. There is a stone guard that is well-integrated into the structure. You would need to check the durability of the Sense Ride 2, in the region of the mesh where your foot folds.

The Salomon Sense Ride 2 are excellent versatile shoes with intelligently designed cushioning that is both effective and enjoyable. It is a great product for training and competition because it fulfills both comfort and performance. Test4outside.com gave this product the FIRST Award.
