Used once out on the road and multiple times on the home trainer, these Uyn technical socks are exactly what you would expect from this type of product. Plenty of positive points: comfort, breathability, snug fit, quality materials, durability, look, and more! Once they are on you forget all about them, which is exactly what you want from socks!
That said, you have to keep in mind that these are thin socks, so you keep the sensations, and contact with your shoes. In other words don’t count on them to compensate for any possible friction points in the shoes. The Uyn Cycling Light are made for riders looking for a combination of precision and comfort, leaning slightly more towards precision.
The toe area, especially where they fold, and the heel are well protected. The instep has a slightly thicker soft panel than the rest of the sock, while the sole is very airy. There is limited but a little compression. The top of the socks rise up high enough to stay in place. Any compression sleeves can easily sit over them comfortably.
Composed of 79% polyamide, 7% polypropylene and 7% elastane, the Uyn Cycling Light are breathable and dry quickly. The brand uses silver ions embedded in the fibers to limit bad smells. We cannot certify that the result is due to this technology but whatever the case, these socks don’t seem to smell. They are machine washable at 40 degrees. White does not turn gray over several washes. The fabric does not deform over time.
As is often the case with Uyn, care must be taken over the small “loops” inside the socks, which can snag on poorly trimmed nails (they are rare in the Uyn Cycling Light) and the small connection point (knitting ) on either side of the toes.
The Uyn Cycling Light is an excellent product for road riding in hot conditions. Breathable, very snug fitting but comfortable, they allow you to ride with precision. They received the well-earned FIRST Award.
