We were stoked by this Volkl 100 eight. It is lightweight and really easy to ride in all types of snow despite its size (141 – 108 – 124mm). In deep powder you float immediately, it’s a dream. The ski is fluid and stays firm when you come up against large heaps of snow. Turns in the blink of an eye, despite its width and length, which is reassuring if you need to act fast.
So you can unleash the beast and remain serene. The structure filters the vibrations preventing them rising up to your knees. With a coherent flex the ski bends along the whole length, there are no hard spots. It is the perfect ski if you weigh around 70kg, heavier builds won’t find it stiff enough. The curved well-proportioned shape works well on the pistes and grips well. The 22-metre turning curve varies depending on the softness of the snow.
Carving is pretty mono-radius. To push it you either need to have power or be a technical wizard. It grips on ice so you can attack no problem. The ski purrs, you get the feeling it’s alive and it doesn’t have that hollow “cheap” sound. The graphics and pine green colour are not the most alluring, but its skiability easily makes up for that. This is an excellent ski, accessible, fun, lightweight and a joy to use in freeride situations. Everything you tempt becomes a success with this ski !
