Salomon took the decision to return to the top of the world cup. The brand has worked with the greatest attention to detail on racing products and the different versions, notably the very efficient “Blast”. The Salomon S/RACE PRO 175 is a ski that makes great wide turns.
They aren’t Giant racing skis, even if the performance level is high, the S/RACE PRO 175 are for extremely good skiers, such as instructors who open giant slaloms. Designed to go at high speed on the edges, you need technique and strong legs. The target market is of course limited. Honestly even if these are highly tuned, we prefer the “Rush” that already has superb performance and a long radius.
The usage of the S/RACE PRO 175 is limited because it is demanding due to the size of the radius: you need a well-groomed slope that is practically empty because you pick up speed at an alarming rate, and if there’s a problem it is difficult to put them sideways rapidly.
They are very exciting, accelerate fast and turn without making a mess. The ski tips work well they are instigated as soon as you initiate an angle. They make no sound and don’t vibrate. The skis deform and don’t trap your feet. At a reduced speed you can feel a bit of weight on the front of the skis, slight inertia but it doesn’t matter. It is necessary to ski fast.
The grip on hard snow is undeniable. Changing the curve is possible but you need strong thighs and technique. These are demanding skis that ride well on a long racing style radius. At any rate they are too specialized for the general public.
A fantastic ski that is very performant but who is it for? The target market is restricted: extremely good skiers, instructors or ex-competitors who don’t want FIS Giant skis.
