The Lone Peak by Altra is an unusual design with wildly original sensations. We were blown away by its level of comfort, flexiblity and concentrated cushioning. From the Wasatch Mountains in Utah in 2009, Golden Harper, Brian Beckstead and Jérémy Hawlett modified some mainstream shoes in the family sport’s shop. They were convinced that most injuries were caused by the imposed foot position of shoe designs. These three trailblazers are adept at the Zero heel-to-toe drop. Altra was born thanks to investors Icon Health & Fitness.
The Lone Peak shoe is very flexible in every aspect and provides a well pronounced and enjoyable cushioning. Sensations that could confuse runners that are used to direct contact with the ground. Those who have fragile backs or knees will appreciate this soft filter.
It could also be used as an excellent recovery shoe or for running on rocky terrain. It’s a “fun” product that gives you the possibility to play with balance and try things out on the toe/heel range but also laterally, it’s a shoe made for those who want to explore and enjoy the terrain. As the outsole is thin with zero-drop we don’t have that Hoka feeling, no fear of twisted ankles on the slopes. We really appreciated the king size cushioning in the downhills which also stops you feeling the stones under your foot. It really is a hedonist’s shoe, for pure pleasure and free trail running. Runners searching performance will surely miss the punch as you feel the energy dissipate because you need to wing it along in the stride.
Everything comes at a price and its super wide comfortable toe box means that precision is lost: and feels a little clumsy. Definitely a shoe to discover new sensations, something you could easily wear every day due to the high level of comfort it brings. And it does have a cool look.
