No doubt, the Atomic Redster Q7 is a ski true to Atomic’s reputation. It’s well-built, offering both grip, glide, and sophisticated skiability. The only thing it lacks is a design that really inspires.
In terms of performance, the Atomic Redster Q7 works well. However, there is one downside: its “not quite single-radius” nature. While it’s not overly exaggerated, it does have a fairly fixed character within its 14.2-meter radius. Its radius actually feels a bit longer. Unless you have a large frame and/or are a very strong skier who can bend the ski, it’s not easy to flex. While the Atomic Redster Q7 is quite easy to pivot thanks to its ease of entry into the turn, once you’re on edge, changing radii requires focus. It can only do so within a certain limit, and the ski tends to decide the radius for you. When you push it from the front, it somewhat relaxes the pressure, and fluidity is lost.
However, when you ski it in harmony with its radius, driving it from the heel, the ski becomes very interesting. It produces nice carved turns, and you feel confident with your edge hold. You can also quickly flatten it out and skid it when needed. It’s not a tricky ski, except in very specific snow conditions, like icy or overly soft snow, where it can lose some of its assertiveness… but it remains fairly manageable.
It’s a shame that it lacks a playful, fun character. However, in long turns at higher speeds, it’s genuinely enjoyable, providing solid stability. You can really push it.
It has a characteristic sound from the tip on hard snow.
Best suited for an experienced skier who can fully explore its capabilities. But you’ll need to accept its fixed radius, which can only be slightly adjusted. Alternatively, you’ll need the physical and technical ability to deform it.
