The Lange XT3 Free 130 MW features a highly effective, grippy Gripwalk sole, similar to some Rossignol models. It also comes with certified Low Tech Dynafit inserts.
This is a relatively lightweight freerando/freeride boot (1790 grams), but it is more focused on skiing performance, precision, and handling than on uphill capability. While there are lighter options available, they generally offer less skiing performance.
The main feature of the Lange XT3 Free 130 MW is its close-fitting design. The last is 100 millimeters. It’s important that your foot matches the shape of the shell. If it does, you’ll experience a highly precise boot that skis just like an alpine boot. There’s virtually no difference, and you don’t question the boot’s precision for a second.
The 130 flex is solid. The boot is stiff, and its skiability is excellent. It transmits pressure well, and you can carve and attack without any concerns.
The Lange XT3 Free 130 MW is fairly waterproof. We skied with the buckles open all day and didn’t notice any water infiltration.
The liner is quite thin, especially in the ankle and top foot areas. The comfort is somewhat limited, but once again, if the fit is right for your foot, there’s no issue.
The finish on the Lange XT3 Free 130 MW is excellent. We really like the sturdy liner strap that makes it easier to slide the foot in. The boot also has a large tightening strap across the front. Lange didn’t skimp on quality, although the design team could have reduced the weight slightly. Nevertheless, the practicality is top-notch.
The buckle closure is powerful, even though the buckles themselves are light.
The walk/ski system is fairly standard; you simply pull the strap to switch between modes. There are no position indicators, but here’s the information: lever up for ski mode, lever down for walk mode.
The range of motion is decent enough for some uphill movement.
Despite having a very soft liner that flexes easily, this boot is relatively warm, raising some questions about its durability. It’s clear that Lange prioritized weight savings in this area.
Overall, the Lange XT3 Free 130 MW is a freeride/freerando boot focused on downhill performance and skiability. Best suited for experienced skiers, as long as the foot matches the fit defined by Lange. A solid option in this category.
