X-BionicTerraskin X00/C

The testers were unanimous: the brand-new X-Bionic Terraskin X00/C definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.
From its Apple-style packaging to the Swiss brand’s marketing approach, X-Bionic scores a solid 10 out of 10.

It’s clear that X-Bionic aimed to make a bold impression — with obsessive attention to detail and a strong drive for innovation. While the shoe brings together some surprising features, many of the technical choices themselves aren’t entirely new: mismatched colors for left and right shoes, an ultra-aggressive sole that spills out past the edges, a bulky design, and lugs that might remind veteran runners of old-school Eider shoes. So it’s worth taking a step back to separate marketing flash from real-world function.

The X-Bionic Terraskin X00/C comes packaged with a premium pair of X-Bionic socks, neatly stored in a dedicated compartment. That’s a major plus — trail runners can hit the ground with the right combo, avoiding worn-out or overly thick socks.

First impressions: a heel pull tab would have helped with putting them on, but that might have compromised the design. Still, with a bit of care, your foot slides in easily. The heel is firmly locked in, and the fit around the foot is secure and fairly comfortable. The front of the shoe, especially around the toe bumper, is noticeably stiffer. Note that the shoe runs large — at least half a size bigger than standard.

At 320 grams, the weight is well controlled, and once on, the shoe feels light. Another immediate sensation: the ground feel is sharp and direct, with virtually no cushioning. You’re definitely in touch with the terrain — ideal for precision, confidence, and technical control. That said, the lack of cushioning makes this shoe unsuitable for long-distance efforts.

Traction is outstanding on slick, muddy terrain. The Vibram outsole and aggressive lugs bite in beautifully. Stability is also excellent; the Terraskin X00/C preserves natural foot proprioception without locking you in, even on off-camber trails.

Energy return is average, despite the presence of a carbon plate. The 5 mm drop is noticeable, but the rocker effect is minimal, limiting forward momentum.

Build quality is exceptional, and the product feels durable — though we didn’t clock enough kilometers to confirm long-term wear. And yes, X-Bionic dares to break the €300 barrier for a trail shoe… but remember, it does include high-end socks.

In short: a bold design and impressive craftsmanship.
An unusual shoe with unbeatable grip on technical terrain. Its minimal cushioning, however, restricts it to short-distance trail runs.
