The Hoka Rocket X3 is undeniably a racing shoe designed to push your limits, thanks to a highly energized midsole paired with a slightly revised carbon plate compared to the Rocket X2.
We won’t lie—running in this shoe for several months was a real joy. Simply put, it feels like you’re flying with every stride. Even while walking, the Rocket X3 seems to propel you forward! We’re hardly exaggerating. It’s pure pleasure to launch into a run with a shoe that’s ultra-light, ultra-responsive, and ultra-comfortable.
And here’s the surprising part: the Rocket X3 isn’t just for elites. It’s actually quite forgiving of minor foot placement errors and helps improve race times. Of course, the best performance comes with a forefoot or midfoot strike, since the rear of the shoe is quite soft and narrow, creating noticeable heel roll.
The forward rocker is seriously impressive—the Rocket X3 quite literally throws you forward.
Speed-wise, the difference compared to the Rocket X2 isn’t dramatic, even though small fins have been added to the carbon plate. We did notice and appreciate the improved grip on smooth and wet surfaces. The upper has also been revised for easier entry, with the inner bootie replaced by a more classic ankle collar.
In short, an excellent carbon-plated racing shoe to crush your PBs. A racing beast that’s surprisingly easy to tame. Award First TEST4OUTSIDE.
