This is the base layer we turn to for cold-weather conditions: bivouacking, skiing, hiking—in short, for all activities where lightweight gear isn’t necessarily the top priority. The Icebreaker Merino Blend 260 ZoneKnit Seamless weighs 280 grams in size M. Naturally, the use of merino wool drastically reduces odor buildup, which means you can often get away with just one technical layer instead of two… It’s a trade-off, but a worthwhile one. Overall, our test results are very positive for this product, which originally launched at a premium price but can now be found at a discount. We’ve awarded it a First Test4outside Award.
The Icebreaker Merino Blend 260 ZoneKnit Seamless is extremely comfortable thanks to its fabric and body-hugging fit. The seams are virtually unnoticeable, and the fabric feels soft against the skin—with absolutely no “itchy wool” sensation.
Despite its high level of warmth, the ZoneKnit design incorporates ventilated panels to help manage perspiration. Still, in our opinion, this is a base layer best suited for cold conditions and lower-intensity activities rather than high-endurance efforts.
The fabric holds its shape well, and the open collar is cleanly cut and comfortable. It should be washed in cold water.
