GiroAgilis Mips

The Giro Agilis Mips helmet incorporates Mips technology, a safety system developed in Sweden around thirty years ago. This technology addresses a well-identified risk in head trauma. The brain is more vulnerable to rotational movements — caused by angled impacts — than to the forces generated by a direct linear impact. These rotational motions can create relative movement between different areas of the brain, stretching tissues and potentially causing concussions or other brain injuries.

The Mips system integrates a low-friction layer inside the helmet. This layer allows a relative movement of 10 to 15 mm between the helmet and the head, helping redirect part of the rotational energy and reducing the amount transmitted to the brain. A helmet equipped with the Mips system is easy to recognize thanks to its visual signature: a yellow dot located at the rear of the helmet.

This technology is now found on a large number of road cycling, mountain biking, and even ski helmets.

The Giro Agilis Mips is aimed at cyclists riding on the road, and it can also work well for gravel riding. We discovered a lightweight helmet that quickly becomes unnoticeable once worn. There is no feeling of inertia between the front and rear when moving the head. The retention system is also particularly well designed, providing excellent stability and outstanding support at the back of the head. In short, the Giro Agilis Mips stays perfectly in place. The rear micro-adjustment dial is not a Boa system, yet it remains precise and delivers a reassuringly high-quality feel.

The comfort padding does its job well despite being fairly minimal. The pads also absorb very little sweat.

Ventilation on the Giro Agilis Mips is truly impressive, making it an excellent choice for climbing mountain passes in summer. Giro helmets are developed using a ventilation system called “Wind Tunnel.” This advanced design combines vents in the helmet shell with internal airflow channels that push fresh air over and around the rider’s head while expelling heat and stale air outside. Like most highly ventilated helmets, however, it traditionally lacks an insect mesh.

The chin strap uses a classic design.

A very good lightweight helmet featuring precise adjustment and Mips technology to help reduce brain injuries in the event of an impact.
