Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex

We tested the Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex in a wide range of conditions to evaluate their performance in the field: winter approaches, glacier travel, mixed climbing routes, technical rock sections, and ice climbing. From the very first inspection, the positioning is clear. The Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex are designed for technical mountaineering, with a clear objective: to provide maximum protection, precision, and security in demanding conditions.

The build quality immediately inspires confidence. The materials are robust, the finishing is meticulous, and the integrated gaiter reinforces the overall impression of seriousness and durability. In the field, we particularly appreciated the dual BOA lacing system. It allows independent adjustment of the forefoot and upper cuff to adapt support according to the terrain. The adjustment is quick, precise, and easy to operate while wearing gloves — a genuine advantage during winter outings.

One of the features unanimously praised by our team concerns the fit. The Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex feature a wide opening that makes them exceptionally easy to put on. Even with thick socks or cold hands, the foot slides easily into the boot, sometimes almost hands-free. This is a small detail that significantly improves everyday comfort and clearly distinguishes this model from several competitors in the same category.

Protection is one of the major strengths of the Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex. The integrated gaiter effectively prevents snow, ice, and small debris from entering the boot. Combined with the Gore-Tex Duratherm membrane, it provides excellent waterproof protection while delivering convincing thermal insulation when temperatures drop. During our winter outings, our feet remained dry and comfortably protected from the cold.

The Vibram Nanga Litebase outsole performs fully in line with the boot’s intended purpose. On hard snow, mixed terrain, or cold rock, grip is reassuring and stability remarkable. The stiffness of the boot promotes efficient crampon use and provides a real sense of security during traverses and technical sections. Compatibility with automatic crampons further confirms its distinctly alpine orientation.

A few limitations should nevertheless be mentioned. The adjustment strap around the ankle sometimes lacks enough tightening range for climbers with slim ankles. In such cases, it quickly reaches its adjustment limit. We also noticed that the upper BOA system can occasionally make it more difficult to tuck the lower part of pants inside the gaiter, depending on the cut of the garment being worn.

Another, more minor point for improvement concerns the gaiter zipper. When the zipper slider is fully lowered, the edge of the inner lining tends to fold slightly upward. When closing the boot, this small fold can interfere with the zipper and require manual repositioning of the lining. Nothing truly problematic in everyday use, but it is a finishing detail that could be improved on a boot positioned in this premium category.

The stiffness, which is one of the boot’s greatest strengths in technical terrain, also becomes its main limitation during long approach walks. Foot roll remains relatively restricted, and overall comfort feels less natural than on a more versatile mountaineering boot. Finally, while the thermal insulation is highly appreciated in cold weather, it can make the Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex feel slightly too warm during sustained efforts or in milder temperatures.

At the end of our test, the Millet Trilogy Jorasses 4S Gore-Tex convinced us with their high level of protection, precision, and effectiveness in technical terrain. The particularly successful fit, excellent support, thermal protection, integrated gaiter, and overall stability make them perfectly suited for winter mountaineering, mixed climbing, and ice climbing. In return, their stiffness, highly specialized character, and premium price position them primarily for regular mountaineers looking for a high-performance tool to operate in demanding mountain conditions.
