RossignolNova 8

FIRST

In the women’s progression-piste category, our testers evaluated the Rossignol Nova 8 in the 156 cm length. This standout model earned our coveted First Award, celebrating both its stellar glide performance and impressive craftsmanship.Perceived quality is top-notch, featuring sleek metal tip protectors, subtle glossy inserts up front, a textured topsheet for easy carrying, and rubber tail blocks that keep the skis standing securely upright against a wall. Furthermore, it feels delightfully lightweight underfoot.

On the groomed trails, the Rossignol Nova 8 delivers immediate fun—it is the ideal resort companion to build confidence over multiple seasons. It handles sustained speeds with ease while effortlessly guiding intermediate skiers looking to learn carving and refine their edge engagement. Thanks to its generous tip profile, the ski feels like it comes equipped with true power steering. Slightly oversteering—in the best possible way—it initiates turns instantly without demanding physical strain. The forebody does all the initiation work, allowing you the freedom to choose between smooth drifted turns or laying into proper edge angles.

The flex profile is exceptionally well tuned and balanced, making the Nova 8 remarkably forgiving: you never get trapped over the tail or hooked on the tip. It rolls into fluid, elegant arcs with absolute ease. While strictly a piste ski—the tip features no rocker, staying firmly glued to the snowpack without chattering—its wide forebody allows it to punch well above its weight in spring slush and light powder stashes along trail edges. The tip dampens terrain feedback and assists pivot initiation in soft or changing snow.

The only minor drawback lies in the geometric design of the metal tip protectors, as their subtle outer edges can occasionally catch if your tips cross.

A thoroughly enjoyable, fluid, and intuitive ski that absorbs vibrations without tiring your legs. Perfect for effortless progression on edge. A well-deserved Test4outside First Award.
