Grand Raid Réunion : the man to hunt down!
The Grand Raid of Reunion Island is always an epic race, without doubt one of the toughest in the world. The trail tumbles into the deepest darkest corners of the volcanic island’s cirques. The profile is like jagged teeth with undesirable beauty to behold. François D’Haene, the favorite, was having problems with Maxime Cazajous until the great climb out of Maïdo. Benoit Girondel, last year’s winner made an amazing comeback, rhythmic, and even overtook the King François,. At Possession aid station (143km), the two runners stick together for the rest of the race and cross the finish line together. The girls were fighting their own battle. Mimi Kotka was leading the crowd, but then Jocelyn Pauly fought back after Sans Souci 126km). Then Audrey Tanguy is in front but at the end Jocelyne Pauly falls back and Audrey Tanguy and Juliette Blanchet take equal 1st place and Gilberte Libel in 3rd.
