The Boa® Fit System is the Skier’s New Companion!
This winter’s new revolution: the Boa® Fit System is now gracing leading brands from Atomic, Fischer, Head, K2 to Salomon. After years of development and countless field-testing hours, the famous tightening system provides an ultra-precise and comfortable foothold. We were lucky enough to test-preview these models to form our own opinion on the obvious user benefits. And here’s the update for Winter 2026 — the arrival of the new Dual Dial technology, unveiled at the end of this article…

The press release caused quite a stir in the rather traditional ski boot world: the renowned Boa® Fit System will now be fitted to products of four of the leading brands, Atomic, Fischer, Head, K2 and Salomon. They had all been seduced by the innovation’s three key advantages: precision, speed, and simplicity. The Boa®’s meticulous integration into these boots resulted in increased foothold, comfort and ski control. In the winter of 2023, we were lucky enough to test-preview all the different models from the four brands mentioned.

We were utterly convinced by this new integration, which replaces the traditional buckle system on the instep and here’s why: we noticed that boots with the Boa® system provide better tightening precision around the foot without causing compression like the classic buckle system, which often deforms the shell creating pressure points and even restricting blood circulation in the upper part of the foot.

The best word to describe this feeling is “envelopment”. The pressure is spread evenly around the foot, and you maintain a sense of proprioception while being snug to the shell and having excellent piloting performance. In other words, it’s a winner for both the often contradictory aspects: precision AND comfort.
Simple, fast, effective, and reliable!
So how does it work? Skiers who already know other Boa®-equipped boots and shoes for snowboarding, cycling, running and trail running are on familiar ground. You turn a disc (called an H+i1) to engage a stainless-steel cable which, like shoelaces, enables you to tighten the shoe to fit. This single disc tightens around the entire forefoot. It can be tightened and loosened to the millimetre. To open the boot, just pull the disc knob outwards and the pressure is released.

Simple, fast and effective. We can also add “reliable” because the 19-strand stainless-steel cable resistance is proclaimed to be 254 kilos (the weight of a cable car with four skiers inside)! So, you ski with boots that are perfectly fitted for utmost precision. After our testing experience we suggest one piece of advice: don’t tighten the knob too much, because those who are used to the buckle system have a tendency to tighten the cable too much in the first downhill. So, is the Boa® just an evolution or more of a revolution, like the first boots with the buckle system invented in 1950, the change from leather to plastic shells, the GripWalk outer soles? Time will tell, but at any rate the improvements in precision and practicality are palpable.

More than 5,500 hours of testing!
It took over 50,000 hours of research and design, 5,500 hours of testing to finely tune and integrate the Boa® system into boots. It’s important to point out, Boa didn’t start from scratch because the brand has 21 years’ experience in snow sports, in particular snowboarding. The first tests on Alpine boots were carried out in 2015. Lab and field testing restarted in 2019 to 2021, and it was really from 2021 that collaborations began with partner brands (Atomic, Fischer, K2 et Salomon). Consequently, the H+i1 disc is integrated into the structure of new boots guaranteeing an impressive 3,000 openings and closings. As well as providing excellent foothold, the Boa® integrated into Alpine boots enables a 13% pressure reduction on the instep while simultaneously improving the underfoot force by 6% and making ski turn initiation easier. We can no doubt assume that the next step will be integrating the Boa® system into World Cup skiers’ boots to establish unequivocally the benefits of this tightening system.

The brand teamed up with World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist Benjamin Raich who shared his in-depth expertise to reach high-precision steering control.

Fifty million users are hooked!
While the elite should soon benefit from the Boa®, for now, none of the four brands incorporating the famous H+i1 has a disc on the cuff. Of course, the obvious development is to replace the buckles in this area. However, a different Boa® rig needs to be developed because the tightening demands are different in this zone. In time, we should see the emergence of a “full Boa” product range. It’s also safe to say that more major brands will be incorporating the Boa® into their boots in the coming winters. Fifty million people across the world use the Boa® system, skiing is the new addition to a line traditionally associated with snowboarding, hunting and fishing, protective equipment for the workplace (eg: firefighter boots), ski touring boots, running shoes, basketball shoes etc. this winter there’ll be no excuse for skiing in badly fitted or uncomfortable boots! The Boa® system’s simplicity and high precision now takes care of skiers: that’s one small disc for a boot, one giant step for innovation!♠

Dual Dial Technology for 2026!
This winter, BOA® is shaking up the world of ski boots. With the launch of the all-new BOA® Fit System Dual Dial, an innovative dual-dial technology designed specifically for alpine skiing, BOA® is redefining the standards of comfort and performance on snow.

The Biggest Brands Go BOA® Dual Dial!
Two independent adjustment zones — on the cuff and the lower shell — deliver a unique, micro-adjustable, multidirectional fit, ensuring enhanced support, optimized power transfer, and unmatched precision in every turn. With Dual Dial, every adjustment becomes a fine-tuned movement, transforming how skiers experience power, control, and comfort. Putting on and taking off ski boots has never been faster or more intuitive.

Adopted by leading brands including HEAD, NORDICA, ATOMIC, K2, SALOMON, and DALBELLO, the Dual Dial system is featured in premium single- and dual-dial configurations, now available in over 1,500 high-end winter sports retailers worldwide, all backed by the BOA® Lifetime Guarantee. This season, six partner brands — Atomic, K2, Salomon, Dalbello, Head, and Nordica — will unveil boots equipped with the groundbreaking BOA® Dual Dial technology.

Just two seasons after the successful debut of the single-dial BOA® Fit System on alpine ski boot shells, BOA® takes the next step with its dual-dial configuration, delivering precise, zonal micro-adjustability across both the cuff and lower shell. The result: a superior fit, proven performance, and an enhanced skiing experience compared to traditional buckles.
Tested and validated in BOA’s state-of-the-art Performance Fit Lab in Denver, the Dual Dial BOA® Fit System reduces peak pressure on the top of the foot by up to 13% and improves wrap and connection around the calf by up to 19%, ensuring athletes benefit from a more even fit, greater comfort, and a stronger connection to their boots — with less pressure and pain.
