We really liked this women’s ski. It may look a little innocuous, but it’s quite easy to pivot, light underfoot, not over-shaped, fairly straight… We wondered if this Atomic Maven 86 C would keep its promises, especially in terms of grip.
And that’s the (great) surprise because it combines a certain ease (it’s intended for good skiers) but if you push it… you’ll find what you’re looking for. You can do really extreme carving provided that you are positioned well-centered (not on the front). It works really well and is fluid, for all women.
It is imperial on wide carving turns; you can even vary the turn radius and also massively reduce them on soft snow. The operation becomes a little more complex on steeper slopes on the edge where you really must dose it well or even deform it so that it doesn’t do short turn-segments on short turns. Short turns are also fun when slip/skidding riding, it’s easy because the rear rocker does the job well. Flat line skiing you have to hold it, or it’ll sweep.
It has a wide and curved shovel: it works well and allows you to stay above the snow and be very serene. Its glide is ok. It makes an unusual sound, totally different from the Redster or Q series from Atomic, we feel that there is a little less material in the Atomic Maven 86 C. The rubber tail is interesting, but it wears out very quickly. The top sheet holds up well, but is slippery when wearing gloves if there is any snow left on it.
A very good ski for good female skiers and even for lightweight men.
