Here we find ourselves in the presence of Saucony Xodus 5.0 the ultra-grip shoe: a real pitbull, won’t let go. In deep mud the crampons don’t get clogged up and stay efficient. Its unfailing grip stays 100% efficient even on wet rock. We noticed a small area of discomfort where the toes bend, over time that could prove problematic with durability. Lacing spreads out over seven eyeholes, plenty to give precise lacing. The heel has a good solid snug fit. The tongue is quite high but doesn’t hurt the malleols. On slopes the grip is irreproachable: the Vibram outsole is without doubt used to this type of ground. Saucony has a strap integrated into the lacing the system. You feel it a bit to start with and then get used to it and forget about it.
The mesh isn’t stretchy and the foot volume remains unchanged, which is a good thing. At the front of the shoe you feel that the designers have used a tiny amount of foam as comfort is reduced. But no hard areas can be felt.
The stone guard is thin and light and fulfils its function without changing the inertia of the shoe. The laces are not that easy to store in the specially designed pocket. The movement of the Saucony Xodus 5.0 through the stride is really nice, fluid. A great feeling of stability on the ground and you can run with confidence.
