Scott Sea 108

A few details about the Scott Sea 108: it’s made in Ukraine and features a label where you can write the rider’s name—yours.

Presented in ski touring tests, the Scott Sea 108 stands out. It’s a freeride ski, possibly even a freerando ski. For pure touring use, even with Low Tech bindings, its weight of over 2000 grams is noticeable.

In touring, other skis perform (logically) better than the Scott Sea 108, as it feels somewhat dull. It doesn’t really elevate the turn, meaning you have to add extra effort to get any response. It’s rather clunky overall. Wide, heavy, it seemed to lack energy, life, and drive. However, this initial assessment is incomplete, as it shouldn’t be judged based on a ski touring program. It’s a freeride ski designed for fast downhill skiing, straight down the slope, with a powerful skier and stiff boots.

So yes, the Scott Sea 108 performs well in deep powder, crushing snow piles effortlessly. It’s great for carving big, straight lines. The rocker is effective, and the ski floats well with a tip that’s reminiscent of Atomic’s design.

It has a moderate pivot, and the operation is fairly smooth on hard snow despite its width. When skied with a raised stance, it doesn’t struggle. Its flex is well-calibrated.

As you might have guessed, to get the most out of it, you need to accelerate to give it some life. You’ll need to be able to keep up with its pace. You have to work on your angulation and balance; it’s not the kind of ski that you forget underfoot. It lacks a responsive rebound that excites and allows you to link small and large turns. Its glide is average. There’s noticeable inertia in the front of the ski. The high raised heels are fun when skiing switch.

A freeride ski, possibly a freerando ski, designed for short ascents. A ski that comes with a certain weight, meant to go fast, for skiers who commit and can fully exploit its potential.
