This Columbia Platinum Peak II 3L Shell jacket was a favorite among our female testers, who praised its technical features. It checks all the boxes expected from a high-performance ski shell. We tested it alongside the matching pants from the same range.
First of all, it has a great fit—no boxy or unflattering cuts here. The design enhances the silhouette, which is often overlooked in technical outerwear.
Its protection against snow and rain is excellent. Columbia’s proprietary membrane performs well in terms of waterproofing and durability. Even when brushing against sharp ski edges, you don’t have to worry about tearing the fabric. The outer material is also slightly stretchy, adding to overall comfort.
Columbia’s designers paid special attention to details, such as routing the hood adjustment cords along the base of the neck—so they don’t flap into your face when the hood volume is reduced. The hood fits over a helmet and doesn’t obstruct peripheral vision.
The collar offers great protection and is lined with a soft material that feels pleasant against the skin.
Another highlight: the gusseted sleeve ends easily slip over gloves for added waterproofing and comfort, and the velcro closures in this area are strong and reliable.
We also appreciated the waterproof zippers, which feature small pull loops—easy to use even with gloves on.
The jacket includes dual waist adjustment and a classic snow skirt for added protection.
An excellent ski shell: well-tailored, waterproof, tough, and built for action.
