This small carving ski, the Blizzard Firebird RS Ti, naturally evokes thoughts of a slalom ski. It looks extreme, quite heavy to carry, and has a rather austere appearance with its grey and black design. Initially, one might think it won’t be much fun to ski on.
But, to our surprise, once on the snow, we discovered a very pleasant ski. It’s ideal for any skier who wants to carve and work with a radius (15.5 meters) that’s surprisingly compatible with crowded pistes. You can weave between skiers, avoid them, and you’re not locked into the edge — the Blizzard Firebird RS Ti easily flattens out again. On very hard snow, with highly sharpened edges, of course, the maneuver becomes a bit more complex.
The Blizzard Firebird RS Ti is both powerful and relatively docile, making it suitable for an advanced skier, such as an instructor. It’s 100% piste-oriented, and despite its rather wide tip, which might suggest potential off-piste capabilities, it’s really dedicated to groomed slopes.
It’s gentle in its responses, not overly aggressive — it filters the terrain well. The flex is finely tuned, providing a pleasant feel. It’s not extremely powerful, but it offers smooth continuity in its feedback. There are no stiff spots underfoot, and there are no surprises in this ski, even when pressing into the heel. You might expect, with this type of energetic ski, to get caught in a hard patch, but that’s not the case; the Blizzard Firebird RS Ti guides the skier without overpowering them.
We really liked this ski, provided you’re able to handle it for a full day (it remains a technical ski). On straight runs, it can feel a bit slippery. It’s excellent in its category, but for an everyday ski, it lacks a bit of versatility.
Superb grip on hard snow. Solid underfoot. Unless you really push it hard in the tip on steep slopes, it becomes less convincing in terms of edge grip. We love its controlled dynamism — very enjoyable.
Pivoting in carved directional turns is easy to achieve, and the ski responds well. The Blizzard Firebird RS Ti naturally engages in its turn radius, carving effortlessly. It offers great sensations without being extreme. It doesn’t lock you in, and you never feel threatened by it. You can always shift back to a more upright position.
As with all Blizzard skis we’ve tested, it makes a slight noise due to the structure of the base. Great glide. Metal-tipped end. Beautiful finish.
A performing, exciting ski for those who love making tight turns. First Award for this excellent ski.
