We hadn’t run in a pair of Hoka Cliftons since the version 8. Here’s our review of the Clifton 10, a model that stays true to the shoe’s original DNA—a high-cushion daily trainer that clearly prioritizes comfort over performance.
On the Clifton 10, the heel-to-toe drop has been increased to 8 mm. You immediately feel a higher stance underfoot, not only due to the drop but also because of the thick midsole, which enhances that elevated sensation. The heel cushioning has also been updated and increased, delivering a soft, highly dampened ride with a very noticeable forward rocker.
During testing, we preferred to run with a forefoot strike to maintain better lateral stability. When heel striking, the softness of the sole can cause some side-to-side wobble and imprecision, especially for heavier runners. So yes, the comfort is absolutely there, but we felt a lack of lateral support, which prevents the shoe from being perfectly balanced.
For daily runs, the Clifton 10 performs well. It feels light on foot, weighing 265 grams in size 42 2/3. The construction is neat and premium: seamless upper, quality materials.
The flat laces do the job, the toe box is wide enough to allow natural toe splay, and the heel cup is well designed, striking a nice balance between comfort and hold. The mesh upper is breathable and adds to the shoe’s overall lightness.
A well-cushioned daily trainer focused on comfort. Lateral stability is not its strong suit.
