This flask, equipped with a dual filtration system, offers impressive versatility — in terms of capacity (1 liter, also available in a ½-liter version), weight (75 grams, not ultralight), durability, and convenience (including a protective cap).
The Katadyn BeFree Filter AC 1.0L is therefore well-suited for travel, camping, and adventures where every gram doesn’t necessarily need to be counted.
As expected, its primary function is to filter questionable water through a membrane. It protects against protozoa, bacteria, cysts, sediments, and — thanks to the addition of an activated carbon component — also helps eliminate unpleasant tastes. The activated carbon attaches to the top of the filter, and we left it in place during our tests. However, if you choose not to use it, the question arises: where do you store it? The carbon is effective at removing bad odors and excess chlorine from the water.
The filter cartridge is rated for 1,000 liters, while the activated carbon is effective for 200 liters.
We especially liked the flow rate of this bottle: by squeezing it, you can easily pour water into another container — something not all filtered bottles allow.
The opening is wide enough to make filling the flask easy. The threading is precise, and an integrated loop allows you to attach the bottle to your gear. It also helps with opening and closing the cap.
A very good 1-liter filtered water bottle, ideal for camping and travel. Practical and effective. Bonus: the activated carbon to fight bad tastes and odors.
