BolléX-Fusion Mips

The Bollé X-Fusion MIPS belongs to the small group of ski helmets that embrace full integration—where the goggle is built into the product itself. Most brands struggle to deliver something truly effective in this category. Beyond performance, one major question remains: what happens if you want to change the goggle, or if it gets damaged? The issue is still unresolved.

So, we were understandably skeptical when unboxing the Bollé X-Fusion MIPS. But we were wrong—the integration is actually well executed. One of the standout aspects is the excellent seal between the helmet and the visor. This area is often poorly designed in integrated models, but here, Bollé got it right: no air leaks and no snow buildup. The lower part of the visor also rests directly on the face, which is quite pleasant in bad weather. Bonus point: the visor can fit over prescription glasses without issue.

We tested the Bollé X-Fusion MIPS early in the season in cold weather, so fogging in humid conditions still needs to be evaluated.

Another strong point is the visor’s hinge mechanism, which appears simple but works well. A single elastic strap (durability still to be tested) holds the visor, and it can be easily pulled forward to lift or lower it. Plastic guides help align it smoothly on the helmet or over the face. It’s simple and effective—but you’ll need to get used to the motion. With thick gloves, positioning the visor under the cheekbones takes a bit of practice.

Thanks to the visor integration, there’s no longer an elastic goggle strap running around your head, which gives the design a sleeker, more fluid look.

Bollé didn’t cut corners on features. The helmet includes a Boa fit system with a small, discreet dial. It’s not easy to adjust with gloves on, but works well with bare hands. Kudos for the padding that conceals the adjustment system. The helmet also features MIPS technology—expected for a model at this level.

Comfort is excellent: the foams and recycled-fabric linings are plush and cozy. The ear pads are also comfortable while maintaining good auditory perception. There’s room for audio systems like Cardo as well.

The magnetic chin strap buckle is standard fare, but always effective. Ventilation is managed via a slider at the top of the helmet. Overall, the helmet is not particularly well-ventilated—something to keep in mind for warm spring skiing.

Last but not least, it’s reasonably lightweight at 540 grams total. There’s no neck fatigue or inertia while skiing.

All in all, this is a well-executed helmet-goggle integration. A sleek design, compatible with glasses, practical and easy to use.
