Simond Edge

Designed for climbers and mountaineers, Simond’s Edge harness aims to combine comfort and lightness. The Test4outside team put it to the test—here’s what we thought.

Right out of its carrying pouch, the Edge harness from Simond stands out with its look. We found it both stylish and original, thanks to its unique color scheme—a smoky black with plaid, tartan-style patterns. The interior part, in direct contact with the body, features a blue mesh fabric that promotes ventilation and moisture wicking.

This harness, positioned as a high-end performance product, was tested during ridge traverses, sport climbing sessions, and alpine outings. Its comfort level depends on the activity. For mountaineering and ridge climbing, it’s barely noticeable and performs its role perfectly. Its design follows the body’s movements, providing excellent support around the thighs and waist without any discomfort.

However, during sport climbing, we noticed a pressure point on the thighs. The strap return that runs through the groin area creates a contact point that quickly becomes uncomfortable if you’re hanging for extended periods. This kind of trade-off is often inherent in high-performance, premium harnesses.

The Simond Edge harness is extremely lightweight, weighing under 300 grams in almost all available sizes. This is a major advantage, making it particularly competitive in its category.

In terms of features, it comes equipped with four rigid gear loops angled outward to facilitate access to quickdraws and carabiners. There’s also a rear loop for attaching a chalk bag or haul rope, along with four slots (two on each side) for ice screw holders.

In summary, the Simond Edge harness is a complete and efficient product. It’s lightweight and comfortable in most situations and on all types of terrain. The Test4outside team found it to be high-performing and very appealing, especially due to its excellent value for money—something that’s often true with Simond/Decathlon gear. Priced at €64.99 on the official website, it delivers all the essentials without unnecessary extras.

No doubt about it, this harness is a solid choice that you’ll pack without hesitation.
