The Icebreaker Men Merino 200 Oasis LS Half Zip is a lightweight base layer designed to be worn directly against the skin. It’s made from 100% merino wool. We tested it during the UTMB shoot in snowy and rainy conditions at Col de la Seigne, and it confirmed everything we expect from merino: warmth and very minimal odor retention.
In terms of warmth, this technical base layer offers moderate insulation, which makes sense—it’s meant to be part of a layered system, not a standalone piece. The Oasis 200 serves as a solid foundation for building an effective insulation strategy.
Good news for those sensitive to wool: the Icebreaker Men Merino 200 Oasis LS Half Zip is soft to the touch and comfortable against the skin. Another plus: the flatlock seams are completely unnoticeable when worn. The cut is fairly relaxed, and if we had one suggestion, it would be for the collar to fit slightly closer to the neck.
At 330 grams, the weight is perfectly reasonable for a merino base layer. Drying time is slower compared to synthetic fabrics—but in return, those synthetics tend to trap odors more easily. Care is simple: cold wash, no fabric softener.
In summary, this is a very good long-sleeve base layer, offering moderate warmth during active use. It’s a versatile and comfortable piece, ideal for year-round use in hiking, skiing, or mountaineering.
