Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL R22

We tested this compact, slalom-style ski in a 165 cm length. Dressed in full racing livery, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL R22 draws clear inspiration from Clément Noël’s World Cup setup. The shovel design is striking — both rounded and angular — and the ski feels heavy in hand, fitted with a race plate.

With a 13-meter radius and 67 mm underfoot, we expected a radical, aggressive ride. Surprisingly, that’s not the full story. While certainly built for performance, the Speed Omeglass Master SL R22 also handles skidded and slashed turns well. Its pivot is extremely accessible, and we really appreciated its adaptability — it’s not locked into purely carved turns.

Its biggest strength — and limitation — comes from its narrow 67 mm waist. While it excels on hard snow, it offers little forgiveness when the conditions soften. In mushy snow, it tends to sink and becomes harder to manage underfoot, especially with its relatively low-rise tip. In moguls, it tends to cut straight through rather than absorb.

In addition to its strong pivoting ability, the ski features a powerful tail, tempered by a more accessible flex than that of a pure FIS slalom ski. Overall, it remains manageable for experienced skiers who enjoy skiing on edge. On firm snow — its natural habitat — it truly comes to life. The edge grip was described by testers as “magical.” Once on edge, the ski is completely stable and allows for extremely high edge angles.

Its stability is rock solid. The cherry on top? You can vary the turn shape. Shift your weight forward, into the tongue of the boot, and the shovel immediately engages to initiate the turn. Engage the tail, and the ski lengthens the arc with ease.

It can handle very high edge speeds, with rapid, energetic transitions. Although testers noted the ski’s weight, it doesn’t feel heavy on the feet — in 165 cm, it carries no inertia.

Naturally, it skids a bit when going straight. To avoid wandering, it needs to be kept loaded at the front. The pronounced tail width — 104 mm — is noticeable at the end of the turn. Glide performance is excellent, and torsional rigidity is top-notch.

This is a highly enjoyable, precise, and confidence-inspiring ski — especially on edge and on hard snow. A superb carving tool, but not limited to carving alone. It also offers a fair amount of accessibility for skilled skiers. Best suited for a dedicated short-turn, slalom-style skier.
