Vaude Monviso 3L Pant

FIRST

The Vaude Monviso 3L pants wins the Test4outside.com FIRST Award because we found that they have every single quality needed for a pair of ski touring trousers, even just simply for skiing.

Exactly the same qualities we also found on the Vaude Monviso jacket: soft fabric, extremely comfortable and breathable. Note – this isn’t a thermal layer, it’s a shell, so you need a thermal layer underneath, depending on what activity you’re doing.

They are quite close-fitting design. It’s the fabric’s stretch effect that makes you forget you’re even wearing them: really pleasant when doing conversions and any other movement. They just feel like a really thin shell.

The Vaude Monviso 3L’s membrane is of course breathable. In the uphill, the very large zip along the hipline lets you open it wide for ventilation. As the fabric is so soft and the zip isn’t stiff there’s no folds that appear when you’re bending, which usually happens with stiffer material. The comfort is second to none.

All the zips are waterproof (except the flies), they slide well, even if they were described as being “solid”.

The lower leg protection is also flexible and there’s limited leg rub. Cordura fabric is used, it seems fragile, but it isn’t. It marks a bit from the skis’ edges but it doesn’t rip.

The gaiter is practical to install with a good volume for all types of boots, ski touring or freeride boots.

The waist belt stays up because it has two wide Velcro attachments. If you find that it slides on a technical tee shirt, you can always attach suspenders (not included).

What we loved: the double press studs at the flies also has a Velcro attachment. So they never open accidentally.

The two large pockets on the thighs don’t get in the way of your knees.

The Vaude Monviso 3L pants are technical, comfortable, not warm (obviously because they are a shell), soft, practical, and light. The perfect product for ski touring, freeriding, and skiing in general. A well-deserved FIRST Award!

We tested the Vaude Monviso 3L Pant with the jacket of the same name, the Vaude Monviso 3L.
